Don't plan your retirement on those 4 letter domains, unless they actually spell a word.

Having a keyword in your domain name is the most important factor, unless you have millions to spend branding a domain nobody can remember!

Put it this way, if all the 4 storey houses in all the world are sold, and you really need a 4 story house whatever the conditions for whatever reason but nobody wants to sell you one, you would go mad and do whatever you could to actually buy one. This is what will happen, people will start begging for a 4 letter domain just like they did with 3 letter ones. Im not going to miss out this time like i did with being too late to grab 3 letter domains.

yes, this theory would be true if we "really need a 4 story house whatever the conditions for whatever reason".

    but...... what's the reason?

i agree short names will sell for high prices due to their novelty. they are short and easy to remember (except something like qkjx which is not pronouncable). they WILL sell because the are SHORT.

but, in order for short names to fetch big $$$, the names must also be brandable. something like "digg.com". short and memorable.

random 4-letter .coms will sell, at higher prices. but they are no match for generic names like business.com (that's 8 characters).

we cannot judge a domain's value by its length alone. many factors come into play.

You clearly don't understand do you. Aside from trying to build your own site some links and more and more hype, unless there is actual end user demand to put real cash into them, they just trade between resellers not really creating any value. With all the opportunities out there, these aren't going to be rising in price that fast compared to better generics. So in effect, you are losing money by not investing in what is going to perform better. How many years are you willing to renew to get that sale and at what price? Renewal costs are rising EACH YEAR (7%) so if you're selling on the margin your domain profits get smaller and smaller.

Many four letter domains are not worth the cost. Who can remember a name that is loaded with consonants and has no special meaning that can be associated with it? Nice try -- 4 letter domains will always be available especially as soon as people unload their overvalued possessions!

    eh..!

well guys, you think its only about you, don't ya?

there're 6 billion people out there, all from different nationalities, and the popualtion is growing..

only 1/6 of them using the internet currently, and internet usage is spreading..

i just don't get what makes you so sure predicting that 4 letter domains are worthless?

your opinion is based on nothing such facts!

does "sedo" mean anything to you? its just an acronym for god sake!
is "zmnm" even pronouncable?, it sold for $10000

Let's use 1 meaningless sale and say the other 456975 4 letters are valuable because of it. Is your opinion based on overwhelming facts? Sedo means domain marketplace to me, it has been branded with hundreds of thousands of dollars.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Opportunity_cost something to think about.
