Hi, I recently ran into a site that is purely Wiki content with a few pictures here and there and adsense. Do they allow websites to use content from other sources? The website gives credit back to wiki. Also, does wiki have any issues with this? Thanks, Aaron
You can use other resources as content and also you have given credit back them, but its hard to organic traffic to your site because of duplicate content..
If you read Wiki's license you will see they basicaly just ask for credit.. inclusive they have an images bank, too, with the same lisence. I don't know if it's allowed to make money from the content and if that type of use would be breaking the rules.. but they do let people use their content.
I read somewhere that Google is OK with duplicate content as long as you make a reference to the original ?
Google will penalise your entire site for dupe content even if is only a few pages. Its very silly. I never tried referencing the original with mine, since I had a link from the original to each of my own pages (which heaps of people followed), didn't try the other way.
You can use content from other site as long you also include the original source of this. Most of this kind of content is often filtered by google and usually will not rank in search engine.
