Tips For a Domain Name Registration

A domain name can be made up of up to three parts. The hierarchy with a domain name moves right to left. The TLD (top level domain) is the highest level. This is the dot-com (.com), dot-net (.net), dot-org (.org), dot-info (.info) or other extension on the right side of the name. The second level domain name is the part of the domain name that people are most familiar with, and usually reflects the name of a business or an industry.

    Top Level Domains (TLD)

A top-level domain (TLD) is one of the domains at the highest level in the hierarchical Domain Name System of the Internet.
examples above end with a different ‘extension’ – .com, .org, .net, .biz… etc. The part after the last dot in a domain name is known as top level domain Some other

TLDs are like .uk, .ws, .tv, .edu, and so on.

{.com is the first level domain
yoursite is the second level domain
    products is the third level domain }

What is the Difference between a Domain, Sub-Domain, Parked Domain and an Add-On Domain?

Domains: These look like “http://www.example.com” or “http://example.com”. Domains are registered and owned by YOU, the small business owner.

Sub-Domain: http://www.products.example.com”. Once someone buys a domain, they can make all the subdomains they want, for free.

parked domain: A parked domain is a domain name parking is the registration of an Internet domain name without using it for services such as e-mail or a
website.Domain parking refers to the act of reserving the domain name for future development.

Example: You own multiple domains such as site1.com, site1.org and site2.net.
You want site1.com as the main domain for your website and you want people who type in site1.org or site2.net to go to the main site1.com website.
Using the domain control panel for site1, you can park additional domains
This is a good way if you own multiple domains such as site1.com, site1.org, site1.net to have all domains point to the same website domain.

Addon Domain: An add-on domain is just like having a separate web site. The add-on domain will be hosted or pointed to a folder in your public_html folder of your main-domain. The Add-on domain should be already registered and the nameservers for the add-on domain should be pointing the same nameserves as your main-domain.com.The addon domain will also be hosted on a folder in the public_html folder. You can access the addon domain using

    Examples

    http://product.example.com/~username/addon.com/
