Alexa is not an exact traffic range tool for sure. It reflects the usage habit of only the users of the tool-bar. But for my point of view, that list can give us some idea. What does it mean to be Alexa 100K, 50K,10K, 1K? Let's list all the examples we know, create a list here.
Ok, I'm gonna start with two of my sites: Unique visitors per day - Alexa Rank =========================== 10,000 - 29K 1,400 - 300K
One of my websites has 1500 page views and it is has weekly alexa ranking of 250k. The 3 month rank in 350k. Trying to break into 100,000 but my guess is I will need to at least triple my traffic.
Its very much based on industry, site, etc. Its really only worth eye-candy for yourself. Checkout this article with graph on how Alexa is losing toolbar installs: http://www.boogybonbon.com/2007/09/18/alexa-seo-recessions/
You can find out a list of Alexa top 100k sites from a Freeware called Lively Browser: http://www.livelybrowser.com/purchase.html#member Followwing is the screen of Lively Browser:
We were developing a community site, in my previous company. We were 3 people in the office, and noone else was aware of that link. Well. In a month we jumped into first 1M. That time I understood, Alexa counts impressions, doesn't care uniques that much.
Yep, i think i am the only one with the toolbar visiting my site seeing that the countries showw 100% for my country
