I have moved up in the alexa rankings in all my sites over time. My one site which is under construction but does have good content on it keeps moving up in the rankings although I get less than 100 uniques there a day. Does anyone know their (alexa's) exact criteria? When I see my site one site moving up with very little traffic it makes me wonder is alexa really all that important. tony ;~)
Obviously it will go up with the rankings, the site receives 100 uniques after all, better than the sites that receives 10 uniques everyday. But I am sure you arent on the number 1 position yet, if that happened for your site after receiving 100 uniques, then you could say or question that alexa's ranking is useful or not! The exact criteria is not to be disclosed, hence its their patented algorithm
Exact criteria isn't disclosed but as its stated as "traffic rank" so it grows with traffic obviously. What I've noticed is that it grows up with a decent number of regular visitors.
yea its also a way of keeping track of your website visits and keep improving to keep your rank stable Regards, Newcity
No matter what some might think about Alexa & Google PR, They are both inaccurate measuring devices mainly used by people that SELL Domain names in order to raise the value in some mystical way. The FACT will always remain that the BEST & most ACCURATE place to check YOUR domain stats is on YOUR domain Server. Even Google analytics offers more than Alexa & PR combined, However it still has it's inaccuracies do to being a 3rd party resource. My suggestion (Unless you are selling Domains) is to use you server Stats for the most accurate information & build your marketing campaign from there. If you want measuring tools, you might as well use the ones that will actually help you make your business better & not just be ornamental medals (PR/Alexa). The way I see it, as long as you focus on building your business utilizing accurate geographical targeting stats, PR/Alexa ranks will follow Just my 2 cents, Good luck!
Alexa is overrated. People fake their stats for reputation then sell false traffic hopes to people. Ridiculous.
Alexa CAN be gamed, but it's not as easy as it used to be. Here's how it can work.. Alexa users are most often using the Alexa toolbar. It follows then that the number of visitors with the toolbar, vs simply the number of users will drive the stats. Alexa also state that their typical audience (ie using toolbar) is not geographically diverse (I dont remember exactly where the majority of users are, it's on their site somewhere). Anyway, you see where I'm going. There's more to the pic than simply the number of visitors (ie your site may rank well in Google for their particular audience etc). Like the post above says, I'd defer to my own server stats if I were to actually make any business decisions about the site. Cheers, JL
