Alexa Traffic Rank Questions

Discussion in 'Traffic Analysis' started by Mia, Nov 10, 2005.

What is a good traffic rank in Alexa?
How much merrit does anyone in the SEO world give to Alexa and an Alexa traffic rank?

I have a site that is hovering around the 20,000 mark. Is this good/bad, does it even matter?

    Thanx

Higher than 100,000 is where it starts to matter IMO.

Yes, the lower the number the better.....

I would agree with that. I also feel like the next big level from 50K is 10K

about 0, it's really worthless as far as real Ranking goes for search engine results, it's ranking comes from it's tool bar, and who uses an Alexa toolbar you say? a lot of sites that rank hi in Alexa, so every time they go to their home page Alexia adds another bite to their ranking.

I dont want to start another thread but i have a little offtopic question. I have increased my traffic 10 fold. Does it mean i can end up in movers and shakers or do you have to be in top 10, 100, 1000 whatever?

    Thanks!

Anything less than 5000 has some merit, 10K is still very easy to manipulate. To be in movies and shakers, you need a huge increase, maybe 100x or 1000x.

Not all sites need a high traffic ranking - it depends what you do. Obviously, if you're e-commerce, it's a case of 'the more the merrier' - but if you have a highly specialized site, for example online marketing/SEO etc. you don't need to compete with the large shopping sites in terms of traffic. If you're B2C you need tons of traffic, - but if you're B2B, it's a case of quality vs quantity

Do not rely on Alexa - it often lies.

Anyone who feels it's "easy to manipulate" please step up and do it for www.alexatest.com. It's a great chance for all the "Alexa is so easy to fake/manipulate" crowd to back up their statements:)

I don't think it's as easy to fake/manipulate as people make it out to be, and the results so far are pretty much proving my theory.

A genuine way i figured to boost alexa rank is by adding their site meter to my most visited pages. My rank is steadily getting better. I dont pummel myself with junk traffic nor ask folks to install toolbar nor do i have a toolbar installed. Having said that i am a little away from 100K... i get 9000 uniques a month from SE's... hope to see a better rank soon.

i am counting the launch of a9 and who knows alexa may be pivotal in something else... why waste this opportunity... moreover it helps when talking to peope about banner impressions...

So the alexa rank isn't based on real traffic, just traffic from people with their toolbar?

I also believe that it can be improved easily to some extent but it gets harder as you go below 100k

    Exactly.
I have the sites (for example):
1 - is technical one gets 300-400 unique visitors daily - it is about 300.000 in Alexa.
2 - youth oriented get up to 200 unique visitors daily - 70,000 in Alexa.
So think Alexa brings very unreliable information.
