Alexa Tollbar is Adware?

Discussion in 'All Other Search Engines' started by martosi, Apr 29, 2008.

I tried to download Alexa Tollbar but my computer anti-virus keeps saying it´s Adware. I searched for a thread here in DP that would clarify this, but nothing came up.
I only want to install the tollbar because I´ve read it´s a good way to have better rankings for my Blog.
Did this happened to anyone before?
What should I do to solv this problem?
    Thanks.

You would need to adjust your anti-virus software to allow this program and related cookies.

Usually anything Alexa related are seen as adware or spyware by antivirus and antiadware types of programs.

Wrong, its not really an adaware. An adaware have to direct you towards an advertisement, with or without you knowing about it. Alexa does nothing like that. If you want to install any toolbar, like StumbleUpon's or even google's one anti virus programs will classify it as adwares cause it is a 3rd party program. You can install it safely without worries, however installing it wont really help cause alexa have changed their algo for the better and this most probably wont really help you in term of rankings.

A lot of firewall and anti-virus software treat it like adware. But it is not. godsofchaos gave pretty good explaintion.

Alexa is safe, you just need to add an exception for it with your anti-virus program.

It probably picks it up as adware because it uses in and out connections frequently, if I were designing an anti-virus program I would make it detect that sort of thing.

Hi. I just wanted to thanks all DP members that took the time to reply my thread and for your tips. They were really great help. Sorry for not replying before, I´m in school exams season.
I still don´t have the toolbar, but as one of you pointed out, it won´t do me no good. I read that info elsewhere, and I think it´s correct. Cheers!
