So I decided to plug a few of my domains into Alexa to see some numbers, and came up with a wide range. Of of them was around 200,000. I'm not sure what to make of it. What's a good number to have, and what does the number represent?
DP is apparently 155th most popular website in the world. So that's good Alexa is very inaccurate though. Also it works out the average so in order to get the most realistic Alexa rank you should wait for 3 months at least.
alexa ranking is not quite an accurate means to calculate the traffic ranking of a website...although it represents quite an accurate ranking for the first 500 sites
Well 200,000 is a lot better than 8,000,000. The number is your rank amongst every other website, based on traffic. So 200,000 sites get more traffic than yours does. (in theory)
Alexa is only to be used very lightly, the results are not accurate at all as it only registers users with the alexa toolbar. One of my websites made it to 89,000 in the world the other day but actually had around 60% less traffic than another that is ranked around 400,000
compete is pretty unpopular! alexa is widely knows! to OP: the less the ranks the better it is! cheers!
A good Alexa rank comes in quite handy when you're selling advertising space, even if it's inaccurate like mridout196 pointed out.
Not true at all, a good alexa rank means nothing when buying links. Ask to see proper site stats and look at other factors like domain age.
The lower your Alexa ranking the better. It also depends on your site- if your site is targetted towards people who have never heard of the Alexa toolbar, you'll probably never figure there.
although alexa isn't accurate still people consider taking a look at the alexa traffic rank of a website before linking to it...so its quite important as far as backlinks are concerned
Alexa can be used to get approximate traffic details of your competitor but you should not totally rely on it; If you are looking for getting traffic stats then awstat is the best. [ At Alexa -- Yahoo and MSN ranks before Google which is at 3 position ]
Almost - but it can give *some idea* about sites. If I see a site that is said to receive billions of uniques but doesn't have an alexa rank... then I get bit suspicious. But overall, it's very inaccurate.
If you get under a 100,000 you're starting to do good. The alexa rank only considers users who have the alexa toolbar installed.
What's with the wink? Are you saying that Yahoo and MSN, which have been huge web portals for many years, get less traffic than Google, which is a fairly new search engine?
Alexa data is for fun , it can not be certain generally webmaster related sites gets more ranking because of the alexa toolbar.
If you make a site targeted towards Alexa toolbar users your site will rank very well. Of course, this rank is pretty much useless, but it'd still be nice to look at.
