I was wondering why the Alexa rankings means when you look at a browser. Does it illustrate your popularity? The quality of your site? I was curious because my site is ranked around 1 million yet I am not seeing that flow of traffic
Alexa rank doesn't mean anything. It has nothing to do with your traffic. Alexa rank high illustrate that most of the people visit your siteweb have the alexa toolbar installed.
Actually Alexa Ranking are important on some advertisers online they rely on alexa ranking so much but to other it is nothing... Because it is manipulated as they say.... SERPs is important rather than Alexa Ranking..
As people mentioned, Alexa has very little value. It is considered valuable if you are selling advertising, blog posts, or text links. Unfortunately, it is about the only way for an outsider to see "the approximate site traffic level", which would be helpful to an advertiser.
Come on, lets give them some credit for being the pioneer and most popular and extensively used third party site ranking. Yes, they are not accurate but which company could have made it more accurate? Is it easy to estimate millions of sites and their traffic without having the webmasters have any tracking code in their pages ? Only Microsoft could have done better as they have the advantage of owning the most popular browser..and they could have released Explorer with inbuilt tracking and that definitely would be quite accurate although STILL not even 80% accurate as many ppl do use other browsers. As popular it is for a 3rd party ranking tool, webmasters shouldnt spend too much time on it for not so good ranked sites as they get lesser accurate for sites that are not ranked that good. Say, you cannot spend $x,xxx and buy a site just because it is ranked 400,000 at alexa as 400,000 rank could mean 500 visitors a month or 50,000 visitors a month.
Alexa is not a relevant ranking index; you should merely submit a "generic" keyword query at Google.com or Yahoo.com in order to find your PR or whatever.
Alexa is a very powerful tool used to rank web site traffic. Find out how your web site traffic stacks up against all your competitors! This is one of the most accurate freely available tools to find out how well your site ranks up against millions of other sites on the Web. Remember: "The lower the Alexa ranking number the more heavily visited the site.". Some examples are: amazon.com (rank 14); weather.com (rank 64); cnn.com (rank 26); google.com (rank 5); Yahoo.com (rank 1). These rankings are generally consistent with the amount of traffic they have.
Who the hell uses the Alexa toolbar? Please find 100 people in your city that use the Alexa toolbar and PM me to claim your $0.10 reward. I seriously do NOT see the use of it. I've looked at previews of the toolbar, but never made use of it or seen it on anyone's browser.
Its a way of measuring how many people who have the alexa toolbar installed visited your website. Its pretty inaccurate because not many people have the toolbar installed.
