Alexa ranking ????

Alexa is a joke, they have my site linking some a completely different URL now for over a year and after many emails I have still to hear from them.

 

Agree. I would not give them the least credit for what they're doing. There are other more reliable ranking services around, IMO. Let's not forget to call the privacy advocates for a word about Alexa toolbar... There now seems to be a competition between A & Google, the first one teaming up with MSN Live. If Google PR means something to me, then Alexa Rank leaves me heart cold.

I might try that just for a laugh. I have the Alexa toolbar on my homecomputer and right now this site is ranking 103. It's some sort of indication, I suppose because it's a cross section of the internet community that are visiting the sites. Still - It's only an idication.

 

Do people in HK tend to use the Alexa toolbar more than people in the US?

 

I get loads of traffic from Hong Kong but my rank is still in the 80K's. I don't think they use Alexa toolbar.. not that I know of.

 

Another thing to keep in mind is that the Alexa Tool Bar only works with Windows and IE. Very few people I know use windows, and even fewer still use IE.

 

even though I seem to understand how it works, I still think it is a mystery. I have some sites that get over 5 to 6 thousand uniques yet they ssually get a lower alexa ranking then some of my new and not so popular sites.

Bottom line I think that the traffic is better and more important then the ratings.

I tried the Alexa toolbar once about 3 years ago and uninstalled it since it throws 100 spyware and virus warnings on all of my security software. I contacted Alexa and they said it is not spyware but I doubt it.

your site will eventually be added, you cant really add it as such, submit to directories etc. quality backlinks

I"m sad to see that everyone hates Alexa. I was just excited when my site had a thumbnail on there. Oh well. I'll still go there and see if I keep going up in rank.

Alexa ranking depends on the users of alexa toolbar going to your site.
Alexa ranking is certainly worth because they constantly keep checking the traffic and modify rank.

 

I don't quite understand the draw of Alexa rank, since you can install various tracking software on the site that shows you, with much more information, how much traffic you are getting.
