Alexa Ranking

Hi,
Just checked my sites ranking which is 2million but says that its traffic rank is 205,418 in India, is this good?

...There is still room for improvement, I guess. Alexa rank is basically meaningless, though, so don't let it worry you. Work on increasing traffic, and your Alexa rank will follow.

 

my forum is 2,500,000 usa traffic
dropping about 700,000 a week started at like 28,000,000 lol

Alexa rank and page rank are useful for the people involving in banner advertisement, text link advertisement. I think it should not so good. You are in 6 digits in India. For a particular region, I think four digit is the excellent if you are selling banner ads in your website.

 

according to me Alexa is nothing. it doesnt mean anything for a web-page. Alexa 100K doesnt make your web-page good or Alexa 1.000.0000 doesnt make your web-page bad... dont worry

 

I would not worry too much.
If your happy with the amount of visitors coming to your site and your making cash then your ok!

I've just restarted my chain of sites (had some very serious problems to take care of last year)
and lost over 100k/month visitors (now around 100/month) and dropped to rank 25,883,542 in the uk
When your ranking gets that bad then start to worry

 

I think Alexa Rank is there just for show, it adds credit to your website when selling it. It isn't too difficult to get the rank up. Simply, install the toolbar and you will easily be up to 2,000,000!

 

just drive more and more and more traffic to your site and visitors will make tons of hits ... and you may be one of top 10.000 sites on alexa

 

Surely it's the quality of the hits that matters, not the quantity.

 

Why do you say that Alexa's ranking is meaningless?

 

Because it's based mostly on visitors who have the Alexa tool bar installed - which is hardly any of them. And most of the people that DO have it installed are webmasters, which means sites related to other niches don't do well with Alexa.

They have recently said they're taking other factors into consideration... but the truth is: nobody really knows how many visitors a site gets except for the site's owner.

Google and other search engines would have better estimates, but not Alexa.

 

sure i agree with you quality are very important and it should be real hits made by people not fake hits by robots or scripts

My Alexa Ranking is somewhere around 4 Million + . I have to improve a lot. Actually, Alexa is based on traffic, so i think i have to get more traffic.

 

Alexa can be somewhat handy when trying to gauge the traffic of a site you do not own, but for your own site you should be looking at your traffic logs. It's your traffic logs that offer the details and precision needed to make business decisions to expand your site and its reach.

the importance of alexa is only skin deep...I wouldn't worry too much on a system that could be cheated easily

 

Hello everyone, I'm new to all of this, and was told recently that Alexa ranking doesn't matter too much. I don't know if this is true or not, but I've been recently been tracking my Alexa results and so far they are

Site 1 - 1.5 mil
Site 2 - 3.2 mil
Site 3 - 3.8 mil

I heard that the hits to Alexa only count if there is a toolbar is installed, so if MANY people who visit your site don't have the toolbar, you would only be getting the traffic hits anyways, and not Alexa hits. So why does this matter (unless you're trying to get sell advertisement space or make money on a blog, but if all of these numbers are only from a particular companies toolbar, why does Alexa matter?)

 

To my mind good SERPs can be also useful in this case.
