I know a site that is close to 20000. www.valuenotes.com is at 20052. This one has 200000 unique visitors every month.
I dont think they check anything more than pure impressions. They collect data for millions of sites. Collecting and handling IP data etc for all these sites would be cumbersome.
I have a question for you all here: About the alexa related links: it seems like everone with a valid email address can submit some links to the related sites suggestion box and they will be accepted. I tried few times and they were always accepted. Are they checked by someone? (except a robot..)
I Probably won't participate but I think Emil's experiment is a good idea, at least it could provide some more insight into exactly how Alexa works, which if you read this post there seems to be some confusion on. The real problem with Alexa in my opinion, is that only Webmasters use it, and average web users will never use it as long as they're told it's SpyWare.
I agree there jda.The ONLY reason I have Alexa and Google toolbars installed is to check figures/pageranks etc.Even then I only use it with IE and not my default browser (Maxthlon).
i used alexa booster at first now my site is ettling down and getting real visitors so i don't care much about alexa now
Umm... the alexa toolbar for one. There are also various other add-ins for Mozilla and other browsers that let you check.
Despite the uncertainty of using a .ws domain, in less than three months my new site has really moved!:
Forget the worry about the .ws , I can't believe there are still people "surfing" for spice girls info
