I recently visited Alexa's website, and noticed something about keywords. It appears that keywords by themselves do not rank high enough. It seems keyword phrases rank higher. Somebody with experience here please correct me if I'm wrong in this assertion. I have also read that keywords with less than 6.000 (is it hits or clicks?) searches are more likely to draw traffic to your site if you use them instead of those with higher search rates. Again, will someone with experience in this field share their thoughts or knowledge and experience about this fact? Thanks. Genevieve
Those 1 term keywords were popular in the earlier days of search engine. Present day... as more people learn how to use the search engine more effectively, longer search phrases are the ones which drive traffic to web pages. You see, people who are looking to buy flowers online are more likely to search for "flowers delivery" than "flowers".
It still depends on the niche too. For some single words will still be higher...ie cars, viagra, etc. Longer keywords do tend to convert better for most niches. It is pretty tough to get rankings for a single word anyway.
Keyphrases are more natural and is usually what people use to perform their search. Did you also check that those keywords are indeed ranking on page 1 for the particular site? If it does and converts, it should be showing in Alexa keyword report too. cheers
Thanks for your replies and suggestions. I've used Google's free Keyword Tool to determine which keyword phrases to use for PPC ads. Google provides you with a list of suggestions, and you immediately see that a certain phrase has 1 million searches, while other similar ones have 10,000 or 6,000 searches per hour, day or month. Under normal circumstances, which would be the one most likely that a marketer would choose in a situation like this? I thought one should try for the one with 6,000 searches because that would mean less competition. Your opinions are welcome. Jenevieve
