Alexa rank -> traffic?

Hi,

Does someone know a ressource that gives an approximation of the traffic a website receives based on its alexa rank?

If it doesn't exist, I'll start a thread for people to report their alexa rank and the traffic they get so we can see.

Based on Alexa, no. But there is compete.com you can get an approximate traffic stat from.

You shouldn't rely on alexa ranking for traffic estimation because even a ranking of 10,000,000 could get 1k uniques while a ranking of 100 could also get 1k uniques

 

not based on alexa. the alexa ranking is only based on the traffic generated by users using the alexa toolbar.

 

I see, what do you guys suggest as the best way to know how many people you can get with from a particular ad?

I went to compete.com and the figures for my website are 50% smaller than the reality.

If you guys have other ideas? I can ask for traffic screenshots but well since those can be easily modified...

Thanks for the answers though, I though alexa was a reliable overview of the traffic.

 

Alexa can give you an estimate whether they get some traffic or not but internet marketing or computer websites always have higher because more "web" people use alexa toolbars and go to those. Where an entertainment site could get 10x more traffic and still be behind the PC site.

 

Don't rely on alexa as it considers only traffic based on alexa toolbar users. Compete is better.

ive always been told that the hosting company will always have the best traffic stats as they host the site & can only correctly have the right info,

 

alexa is VERY inaccurate..believe me..1 of my site gets around 80visitors a day - alexa(350k) and another 350 a day - alexa(950k)..wat more do you need??!!

 

So basically all I should rely on is server logs, analytics and such pretty much?

Because compete isn't reliable either since it uses UVs and doesn't have enough information sources?

 

Alexa is spyware, and should not be considered as reliable.

If you use alexa, even in the slightest you are promoting spyware. To even visit the alexa page, to ask about alexa traffic - to have ANYTHING to do with alexa, you are promoting spyware.

 

Alexa ranks is worthless, take one of my sites as example:

New domain (less than 3 months), alexa tb installed on my production computer, only one human visitor (that's me) current rank 601,000~
Canada's rank 10,000~ and going up each week

So, you decide

 

Yeah that a great site...but it only counts USA visitors.

Not everyone lives in the USA...you only make up 21% of the worlds popluation.

A proper site that give worldwide accurate stats would be better, but to date i do not know of one. Best way is a combination of a few sources and collatate that info.

 

I wouldn't rely on alexa. I would just check traffic stats.

 

Google Analytics seems to give me the most accurate traffic stats by far.

 

Alexa is very unstable...use it with a grain of salt....use compete to get an estimate of your monthly uniques

 

There is nothing to with visitors but will more popular in internet business
