On the same site were I found my Google pagerank is now 4 which is the highest it has been there was an Alexa Rank of 716,444 . Is that any good. Werther it is good or not how do you know if you have a good Alexa rank?

Honestly that is not good. A ranking of under 100,000 would be considered good. Alexa ranks sites based on traffic, plus page views. For example, let's say you get 10,000 unique views / month, this seems good, however, if you don't have like 3 page views / user or higher, your Alexa rank would still not be good.

Alexa rank is useful for domains that rank under 100,000. With ranks over 500,000 the data are very unreliable.

i believe in alexa ranking and regularly check it for all my sites. compete.com is another good one u should check ur site in. worldwide ranking of less than 250k or country ranking of less than 50k is really good. there is no way to increase ur alexa ranking unlike google ranking. only thing u can do is to keep doing seo and marketing ur site. more people visit ur site, better ur alexa ranking. so get more visitors to ur site.

You can increase your alexa ranking by buying taffic. There are lots of people doing that in DP.

This discussion is very informative I never understood what factors determined a site's alexa rank.

IMHO Alexa is a useless metric, because of all the Alexa Boosters out there. Once people hacked the Alexa Rank, it is the last metric in my mind in SEO.

I use Alexa, Google PR, etc as indicators of my sites' improvement but my main concern is the number of visitors to my sites and that is available from their log files. There's no doubt using logs as to whether or not your overall promotional and content building strategies are working or not.

More visitors = more adclicks = more revenue

What do I care if Alexa drops a site under 100,000 and Google raises my homepage rank to a PR7 if the number of visitors to the site doesn't increase?

The only other number other than visitors that interests me is "click-thru-rate". I want as many of those visitors as possible to click on ads!

Alexa has to be the worst system out there to see what a site does. If you really want the true numbers get a system the has you put an "embed" code on your site. (there are a lot of them out there)
As a person who advertises I look for 2 things. Visit and pages viewed. I don't care what you are ranked at. I don't care how many hits you get. I want to know how long and how many stay on your site.
Sites that have (average) less than 8 pages viewed or less than 5 min. on a site are nothing sites.

I've seen sites ranked in the 50,000 and have 1.2 pages viewed. Which means they get the people but can't hold them.
