A website is in the high 60k in Alexa traffic rank. Yet, it's not in the top SERPs for any of its targeted keywords (actually, it's not in the first hundred results even!) in Google, Yahoo or MSN. How would you interpret this data? Is the Alexa traffic rank just full of it? Is there something I'm missing? Why is that website valued higher than a similar website that's getting more traffic from search engines. Thanks for your thoughts. P.S. I can't post the actual website Edit: I understand that the Alexa TR takes direct traffic and referring traffic into calculation, but it still seems strange that a site that is not even in the first hundred results for its targeted keywords would have such high rank in alexa.
As per my knowledge Alexa gives high ranking to technology sites. Not sure what is the theme of site you are talking about but just check if I am right.
There might be many reasons for that, the traffic may be coming from favourites or social bookmarks, also if it has a huge index, SE traffic may be there. I have a website which receives 10x traffic to subpages and categories than recevies to homepage with targetted keywords.
Alexa stats cam be manipulated very easy.... but if you assume that the ranking is obtained legit, this is also possible, but organic traffic could also not be the main traffic source.
Maybe that site have many pages indexed by Google and it's getting most of their traffic from inner pages. Or getting traffic from rss, or pictures, or social sites, or ...
Good traffic on your site as Alexa stat but you have not mention your site, if you want position through main search engines then follow their rules.
