Hi there my site is fairly new. about 5 months now. my alexa rank is 3,787,96610 . I don't get much traffic to my home,because i have much work left to do . A larger site..more developed ,since 1992. Rank. What exactly is the Alexa rank all about? Can someone help me understand it?
The lower the alexa rank the better. For example google is 1. According to alexa google is the number 1 most popular site and your site is the 3,787,96610 (un)popular site.

Yahoo has always been #1 on alexa. Aside from the fact that not everyone having the toolbar installed, other aspects make it misleading as well. Forums like this, for example, have highly inflated traffic because the same person generates a high number of page views. You generate several just to reply to a message.
Alexa rank i belive is determined by alexa toolbar users and what sites they visit, have you ever installed it? Coz i havnt. So i belive alexa is very very inaccurate and people can easily fake their alexa rank by refreshing the site over and over having the toolbar installed. my site is: 3,182,625 and i only really use it for testing out site scripts. I didnt even think that site was a valid number...and whether that many domains even exist
Alexa has nothing to do with Google. They are not related or work together. Alexa doesn't affect your rankings at all.
Alexa Rank is just the position of your site in the top websites list when compared to others'. Dont worry about alexa ranks.Try improving your Google Pagerank and your alexa rank will improve automatically

Alexa rank is not reliable and easy to manipulate. A much more accurate sign of traffic is Google Analytics, but it's not made public (which might be a good option for Google to allow). It is relevant if you are selling blog posts or text links, in some cases. Since most of us have an Alexa toolbar getting visitors from here will increase that rating quite a bit by itself. Also, take a look in the Freebies section, as there are many giving away Alexa visits.
alexa rank dosnt mean anything unless your in the top 1,000 sites on the internet (which you would know), it only registers traffic through people who have the alexa toolbar installed. You can also write a macro to refresh your your browser with toolbar on therefore increase your rank so the tool is nearly pointless.
Actually its top 100,000. and google does PageRank which is a 1-10 10 being the best 1 being the lowest. Which in my mind is a lot more accurate.
Alexa does not affect page ranking, and until you have lower than a 10,000 ranking I wouldn't pay much attention to it. And even then there isn't a whole lot of use for it. The most important thing about your website is the revenue. A site with a ranking of 1,000,000 could make more than one with 10,000.
