Alexa is ok to make a quick judgement whether a website is popular and visited or not. If a website has really many visitors some percentage of them will have toolbar installed and it will reflect on the statistics.. And of course, webmaster related websites always rank better because most of the visitors have a toolbar, when entertainment websites tend to rank lower..

Alexa is losing importance every day, I don't see why people care too much about it.

Hehe see obviously you don't understand it as you can update the screen shot yourself.....

I think it's actually O.K , the people that really hate it are the ones that don't rank that high - so obviously it (Alexa) must be crap then huh ?

my sites where webmasters dont go (so people without alexa toolbar) are nowhere to be seen. this is why it sucks...

Alexa is easy to game and provides a very biased view of the web. People who use the Alexa toolbar are going to tend to be webmasters and people who are fairly advanced web users. Your holiday site is not going to get many visits from this type of people, but your web directory will. If you want to rank high on Alexa, just make a site about making or promoting websites.

In other words, I agree, Alexa is useless. I wish advertisers with some programs would stop insisting on a good Alexa ranking -- even though I somehow have a very decent Alexa ranking. I know what it felt like when I had a site that was way more popular than a competitor who ranked about a million places better in Alexa. I ranked higher in Google for the keywords we competed over, and my PR was higher, yet some people may have seen his Alexa rating and thought his site was the more valuable property.

Eyo. How long did it take you to realize this.
Webmaster related site (or sites that webmaster visit) have the clearcut advantage over all other sites since it is mostly webmasters who use this toolbar (and few of them at that).

Alexa is just one tool to measure a site. It isn't the end all be all.

When your site does not have much traffic, your results will vary widely. But it is just a numbers game like so many others. As you have higher traffic, your numbers average out and alexa becomes more accurate.

Hope that makes sense, but it's the law of large numbers.

Thats true. If your site managed to climb on a higher position, even if your site is down for over 6 months, your site will still keep the current rank or even surpass it. Lols. :D

Alex is only good if you have their toolbar. Which means it is not a good indicator of your web site traffic. It's good to see where you at but it's not the whole picture, it's not even 1/4 of it.

Everyone is referring to the uniques being vital in measuring Alexa Rank the terms being used : "one of my sites got xxxx uniques and another got xxxx Uniques (less) and it still ranked higher"

This isn't how Alexa works, yes it's a factor - but it's also measured by how many pages on average each unique visits.
