Recently we came to know that a website, which was showing an average of around 1.5 k uniques per day in analytics had an Alexa of over 5 million. From our experience, we expect a site receiving such a traffic on a regular basis should be under 100 k. The site belongs to one of our clients and we are still puzzled over this mismatch Anyone else observed such trend? Pls share.
hmm.. it happened with me too. this might be because of the algorithm of the respective search engines.
Alexa toolbar is mostly used by webmasters , which is also used to track the traffic . But 5 million is quite less for that kind of traffic . Anyhow I think nowadays Google Analytics provide enough features and benchmarking tools , and compensates for Alexa.
Google Analytics is by far the best benchmark for getting the right estimate for a website's traffic, the two results vary because of the varying algorithms.
Never trust on alexa toolbar !!!!! they don't have accurate data !!!! Google analytics tells you the truth about web traffics !!!!!!!!!
The thing is that Alexa and Analytics shows complementary results for 99 % of sites. We have tested them for hundreds of sites. There are a few exceptional cases like these where the results do not resemblances. For 1.5 k daily uniques we expect the alexa of this site to be near or under 100 k. This is not the case here.
