This way you'll be assured your alerts won't go to junk mail or get vaporized as spam. You can simply subscribe, set up your mailing list, and generate an opt-in script to place wherever you want it on your site. When users subscribe, they'll be immediately challenged to confirm their opt in by email -- thus providing the all important double opt in.
