Alan Spector, Republican US Senator for Pennsylvania, Switches to the Democrats

Discussion in 'Politics & Religion' started by bogart, Apr 28, 2009.

Alan Spector a Republican for 30 years has announced that he is switching to the Democrats.

Should Al Franken be seated in Minnesota, the democrats with have a fillbuster proof majority in the US Senate of 60 seats.

Spector voted for the stimilus bill and was facing a challange in the 2010 Republican primaries. Further as a consequence of the 2008 Presidental election, 200k Republicans switched to the Democratic party in Pennsylvania to vote for Hillary Clinton in the primaries. The voters have not switched back and Spector needs them for his 2010 re-election bid.

Good riddance. I'm sure the democrats will welcome a scumbag like him into their party with open arms. Don't know how he still gets elected.

Yeah, that's awful. He was doing his job as an attorney. That's how our legal system works (or is supposed to work.)

Meanwhile: HA. HA... HA! Also HAHAHAHAHA! The GOP is dying even faster than I thought it would. Who's next? Snowe? Collins?

Wow: Surprising move to me. Over the years, some members of Congress have changed parties. It seems as if most of the changes involve people moving from the minority party of the time to the majority party of the time.

It also signifies that the current Republican party is currently dominated by the extreme right wing of the party...and simply doesn't tolerate a person trying to straddle the middle. The current GOP is an ever tinier smaller and smaller extremely small tent...with little room for divergent views.

Another sign that Democrats are smarter than Republicans. Leiberman quit the Democrats because of of something so ridiculous as principles. He found himself not disagreeing with many of the views held by the Democrats. Specter, on the other hand, has had no real change of views. Per his own words, he realized he simply wouldn't win the election as a Republican in Penn. after being one of the few Republicans voting for the Obama stimulus bill. It was either switch, or loose his cushy job in the Senate. It isn't very honorable, but it is smart. I suspect he may have been a Democrat at heart all the while!

Yes, you can call Spector a RINO.

Of course, you can also call out yourself for this "I'm a Liberal" routine you have been playing here is old and played out.

I guess if you like pretending to be something else, you must not be very proud of your real beliefs.

That sounds suspiciously like a personal attack. You've hurt my highly tuned liberal feelings. I'm going to go cry now. Say your sorry!

Hmmm. Look, if you are going to claim to be a liberal, you need to do your research so you don't make us look stupid.

    http://religions.pewforum.org/affiliations

You'll find all secular folks, including Athiests, make up the minority of America. You also need to dig through that site, and look at the breakouts of religious by political party. In many if not most cases, you will find the Democrats and Republicans are closely, if not equally represented in almost every faith.

In other words, Republicans and Democrats agree that Atheism is kind of a silly religion. That doesn't, mind you, mean that Republicans don't suck on almost everything else they stand for.

Also, I didn't claim Spector is a Rino. I claimed he was expedient. If he were to move to the bible belt, he would promptly change back to being a Republican to assure himself a seat at the trough.

Pizzaman, you have no room to talk. You aren't even a real liberal. Anyone who thinks Joe the Plumber is qualified to give plumbing advice is obviously living on another planet.

I am am neither liberal or conservative. I am liberal on social issues and very conservative on fiscal and military issues. In fact, I think I am like most Americans.

Anyway, I see you could not even come up with an excuse for why you trashed public schools. What an amateur mistake.

    Don't we all.

Care to provide a quote? I like public schools! And now you have to admit, trashing overly pushy Atheists does not make me a conservative.

What is this, out the closet Conservative day? I consider myself an ultra liberal. A liberal on steroids. An advanced t9000 Cyberdine Systems model liberal. A liberal with a brain.

Like your standard liberal, I am willing to mindlessly espouse liberal dogma in broad generalities because repetition helps reaffirm the belief systems of the party faithful. Unlike the starry eyed mindless zealots, I am willing to go the extra distance and point out why we schooled you, how we schooled you, and why we will school you again next time.

Oh sure, I'm sure there are some of my fellow liberals out there saying, "Shhhh, don't say that, it may be true, but it makes us look bad", but personally, I don't give a shit. We won, they lost, and I think a little gloating is in order. As my new idol Zibblu likes to say, the Republican's have rendered themselves irrelevant, so I should be able to say whatever the hell I want. It's a one party system now.

Boo-f#cking-hoo. So some poor liberals are getting pissy because I'm not "100% bipartisan". Just because I'm not a republican or democrat doesn't mean I see them both as equal. Let's get one thing straight here, the foundation of modern liberalism is ultimately to undermine what our founding fathers worked for. They have no respect for what makes America unique in the world, can any liberal here tell me what separates America from the rest of the world? Can anyone tell me why so many immigrants have come here since the beginning and why illegal immigration is such a problem??

Is it our free healthcare? Is it socialism? Is that what distinguishes America?

Sorry but the fairness doctrine hasn't been enacted yet, opinions are unfair - deal with it.

nate is not a Republican. From what I've seen he pretty much dislikes whatever party is in power. If you do some searches he didn't have a lot of nice things to say about Bush either.

As long as people are behind you trying to kick your ass you'll always be ahead.
