I was doing some blog commenting the other day. I made sure each comment was relevent and often long. Is there any way around or to simply avoid the Akismet blacklist when doing real comments?
The way to avoid Akismet is to do proper commenting in the first place. Although, sometimes blog owners are very aggressive and can report your comments as spam. Read this blog post on akismet blog spam filter. You can get unblocked, but follow the tips at that page so that it reduces the possibility of it happening again.
I learn something new everyday and this blog post you mention has explained a lot to me. I am getting this blank page when blog commenting with certain blog urls so it would seem that I am considered a spammer by Akismet, which is sad because I always make sure to write decent comments. Well I will be contacting them now. Thanks
make on topic comment that adds value to the blog. however, depending on your niche and keyword, you might get flagged by akismet. there have been insane amount of spam done in some niches for which lot of keywords are already in akismet filter. regarless of your comment legitimacy, you will be flagged by akismet due to no fault of yours. for example: casino, pills, and some online dating related keywords will always be flagged
That's crap. I just started a site and already get the white screen. WTF? I don't spam and the site is brand new. Is there a place that we can see which words are considered spam? Eventually everyone will have their keywords in spam at this rate.
From monitoring my own blog I noticed that any comment that have a url will be considered as a spam until i approve it, and when i approve a commenter most of his/her comment will not be considered as a spam any more
I have ad a few people comment on my blog and akismet marked them as spam but I just went in and approved them as not spam
So far Akismet is one good spam filter that we have. I think, you should stop using keywords in name section. Also, if you already comment on that blog using someother name, don't comment back again using different site and name.
I followed the advice on getting unblocked with akismet and they unblocked my url the very next day, not bad, very quick.
Congratz. Do you mean, you contact akismet to tell them that your URL is not spam, or do you contact the site admin ? Not clear. Thanks in advance
Unfortunately, not all of the “spam†comments that Akismet catches are actually spam and could actually be doing you a disservice if you want your blog to eventually rank for any keywords in search engines. They may be posting to your blog mostly to create a link back to their own site, BUT people like myself who actually make informed posts on blogs instead of one liners like “nice post, lol†or just a random set of keywords are actually doing bloggers a service. By making an informed post that is actually related to the blog and the topic posted, people like me are trading you content for your site (since comment text is searchable) in exchange for a link back to our site. We help you, you help us. As long as the comment is relevant and a decent post, it isn’t spam and actually helps your blog rank in Google or Yahoo or any other search engine when someone searches for your blog’s topic. Most people don’t understand this and assume that just because a link goes back to a commercial website, that the comment is to be considered spam and that isn’t true. This is why I don’t go around posting random things on blogs that I find; it’s always related and it’s always a decent sized post, never keyword stuffing or anything related to that.
I believe my blog has been marked as Spam when I do add actual relevant blog comments. I contacted Akismet and while they were nice enough to get back to me very quickly I don't believe that they removed my information from the blacklist as I am still getting a blank page when commenting. I guess I am stuck as being a spammer when I am not?
Hi all, I got banned as well, I contacted Akismet few days ago but I did not get back any answer yet... Also is there any way to find out WHAT makes your comment to be marked as spam? Keywords, name, email, IP, URL?
