Akismet and How It Does What It Does

I've recently enabled Akismet on my WP Blog. I was wondering if anyone here ever uses that as a tool to ban the spammers that troll in to their blogs or any other sites they may have.

Voice your experiences here with regards to this plug-in or any other blog "spam-catcher" out there.

    Thanks in advance.

Using Akismet too and only having to manually delete spam on very rare occasions.

I just activated it and it has saved me from alot of work.
Before I activated it I got about 50 spam comments a day, now Akismet stops them all.

    Highly recommended!

My blogs must have been placed on some spam list as I was getting a few hundred spam comments a day. I now get none. Nice time saver.

I believe there's something else called something like Dave's spam killer that does basically the same thing.

The only problem is that it sometimes blocks not-spam comments :(
