Today i realised how much time i have wasted going in the wrong direction... Did you notice the number of people on DP quick to give advice even though sometimes they don't have the slightest idea what they are talking about? "Yes! Page rank is like a series of tubes. The higher the page rank of your site the more money you get per click from adsense". Its like chinese whispers. Some kid reads some nonsense blog entry and then comes here to spread the word, acting like a SEO guru. Oh yeaaa!!! Im 3rd for keyphrase: "Blue and silver widgets for free in zip format for easy download" I will now go and give everyone advice on getting to where i am. What DP needs is some sort of member rating system. You should get a star next to your name indicating that you have actually achieved something and you know what you are talking about. By the way... Im not bashing. I know most people just want to help. And without help DP would not function. Nor am i being a bighead. The more i learn about SEO the more i realise how much knowledge i lack. So i guess the point of this thread is... lol Around 5 years ago iv spent a month trying to get read of all the profile pages on my forums because someone told me Google will penalize for this. Then Iv spent a year making sure the keyword density on all my pages are 3.5% because someone proved that most pages in top 10 SERPs have it. And then i went through this robots.txt spree followed by submitting individual pages to Google etc. So how much time have you wasted because someone told you or you have red some absolute nonsense somewhere and believed it?
there are some advice given here that is complete nonsense but atleast the forum is active and it's caught most of the time.. I'd love a members rating system or even a title that tells you what the person does and specializes in... SEO, graphics designs, etc We need experts
I hate PR and yet again i have probably made a fortune from link sales by now Ok, lets not turn this into another 200 page PR argument .
DP already has a system - it's called "Reputation". Unfortunately, it is not foolproof and is abused by many members.
The reputation system doesn't really reflect anything anymore everyone's getting full reps... and yes, a lot of rep abuse Hey, you can get full rep for being a funny dude! (instead of an SEO expert)
I used to have maximum reputation before it stopped counting in general section. Now i joke around in marketing -edit- Also... What happens if you were Matt Cutts or Joel Comm who just joined DP and have no rep even thought you know quite a bit.
Reputation is only for people who contribute.. it is not a measure of how much people know. If Matt discloses everything he knows, he will have 10000 points in a single day. .
In my opinion, there are many people ovr here on DP who like to give advises even if thy themself must have not tried or believe in them. Perhaps they are bothered on making a few more post counts.
Same thing almost happened to me when someone adviced me that google favors blogger over WP in SERPS. But my instinct told me that google would never do something so stupid, and looked it up. It saved me a lot of time an effort.
