Aggressive idea to get local business with Facebook

Recently on Facebook I saw someone tag a new business in my city that didn't have a page but was just a simple check in location.

I was thinking what would happen if I made a Facebook Page for a company that didn't have one -- and bring traffic to it?

After starting a successful group, You contact them proposing a monthly plan.

What do you guys think? I don't think this is illegal, and even if so the company would contact you to simply fix it or change ownership before you actually got caught. That's worse case scenario.

Well there is always the danger that they could report your group as spam or mail fb etc and ask if to be taken down, if fb did, its so hard to get a group back up again then all your work would have been for nothing

if you set up a page to promote somebody elses brand you will be breaching their terms and conditions... you tick a box to state you understand this when you set the page up...

my advice would be to try and get a blog ranking for your chosen companies primary keywords... Use the keyword reasearch tool from within Adwords to find out which keywords you should try and get your site ranking from.

Instead of suggesting a monthly plan, you could then make money from either adwords clicks (by sending traffic to all kinds of sites within this niche) or affiliate style links (make sure you track where they go) and have agreements in place with whomever you are linking to...

-doing both breaches adwords terms and conditions I think...

Yes, there would be a posibility that you will lose your work if the owner marks it as Spam. Creating a Facebook page is fairly easy, so I don't see much time lost. If your creating a blog and promoting it that's a long and more time consuming operation.

I also want to not that I had in mind more "small" businesses such as shops, local stores, etc. Not really companies. People that may not be familiar with how to use Facebook or setup a page.

Another more legitimate idea may be to make some flyers offering a free facebook page and use that to get your foot in the door with different companies. Same idea, but with permission..

If they don't have a page, I'm sure they wouldn't be mad at a fully setup page for them. It wouldn't be to keep it from them, it would just be a generous start that can be transfered over if they wish.

I doubt anyone would just go and sue you right away.

I think your idea of making flyers is definitely better than making a facebook page without permission. If you are not the legal representative of the company and facebook finds out, they'll shut you down.

I like your idea of flyers that offer a free facebook page or you could offer a paid facebook page. Most of them will probably know about facebook pages or at least facebook and may already want a page but have no idea how to go about it. You could set up your own facebook page and use it as an example.
