Aged Domains - no pages indexed

I have a number of oldish domains (2+ years) that have generated sites on them. I want to rebuild some of them with decent content. If they have no pages currently indexed is it worth using them or should I just scrap them and buy new.

I just rebuilt one of the sites as a test and started posting to directories, and article directories with unique content, slowly and by hand, about 2 weeks ago. Awstats is showing about 6 or 7 incoming links but if I do a search in google for the name part of the domain the site doesn't feature at all although the article pages with the articles on do. The spider visits frequently.

Since I've noticed in the forum that people say you can get indexed in google within 3-4 days with incoming links I'm wondering if this is a bad sign. Hence the question in the first paragraph.

So what has been your recent experience in trying to build new decent sites on aged domains that were used for generated sites? I know this used to work in the past but I'm wondering if it still does.

    Thanks for you help.

I don't see this as a bad sign. My experience is that it can take few weeks even and depend on your links. Usually, I try Goggle sitemap tool also to get index fast.

Use the Google and Yahoo sitemap tools in order to get indexed within 1-3 days. With this, build many backlinks and start at the forums & blogs. Following these strategies, build your indexed pages and add even more which will result in a higher PR and more links. Create a resource and MAKE SURE the domain you are using isn't blacklisted. PM me for issues of blacklisted sites. There are also blacklisted site checkers. Hope this helps.

    Hi

Thanks for your replies. I understand about the backlinks. It's just I'm concerned the site is blacklisted because it doesn't show in search even for the name which is what someone in another thread said to check. The tools say it could be blacklisted but that doesn't really help because they probably use the same search method I did.

Does anyone have any expereince of having a generated site with no pages indexed in Google get into the index after adding decent content and getting backlinks? And if so, was this in the last few months?

    Will pm you iMarketingGuru.

    Cheers

Did you bought those domains already developed as sites or you bought the domain and after developed them into website? Is it indexed in Yahoo or MSN? I had a similar situation with one of my clients website (tho his domain was 9yo aged) it took more than a month to get indexed (it got actually indexed after the last google pr) , it actually even received PR3 just from 3 backlinks, now the site it gets crawled often by Google.

What i am trying to say is, if you developed the domain give some time to get indexed, but if you bought the domains already as developed sites i would definitively take a look deeper to the site and see what has been going on. In extreme lines i would contact google and tell them you are the new owner of the site and you would like to know what is going on and what changes are need to be made to get the site indexed again.

I PMed you back -- use the site:http://yoursite.com command, look for some nice site blacklist checkers, check in with the mediawiki blacklist and also use http://www.blacklistedip.com/ and http://MXToolbox.com. These should all help, I'll look into other avenues but the "site:" command ALWAYS works. If your site is getting pages indexed, it's only a matter of getting the pages ALL fully indexed by using google sitemaps through Google Webmaster Central as well as having proper navigation and the sitemap: command in your robots.txt file. "sitemap:http://wiki.imarketingguru.com/sitemap.xml" for example.

    Indexing and links SHOULD follow.

Thanks for the pm and the resources. I didn't find out anything new. There's no problem with the server but there are no pages listed in Google either in the stats or using the site: command. I have used a Google sitemap through Google Webmaster Central, have proper navigation and the site is spidered every day.

I've always owned the domain and put a generated site on it a couple of years ago and did nothing else to it. I dont' know if it was indexed by Google then or not. I didn't keep track.

Now I have added pages with good content and got some backlinks but it's only been a couple of weeks so, from how people have been responding, it may simply be that i haven't given it enough time. It has a few pages indexed in yahoo and is spidered everyday.

It was just that someone said they would have expected it to have at least one page listed in Google within 3 to 4 days as there are backlinks. And that got me worried that I was wasting time developing it further. And also left me questioning whether it was worth developing the other similar sites.

It seems from my research and what you've all said that only time will tell. Maybe I'll wait a month and/or until after the next PR update and then see what happens.

    Many thanks for your help.

Wait until July 16th or so, SEOs are stating that that is the date at which Google's next Google toolbar indexing occurs. Read the main threads at the sticky side of the forum and you'll see that quoted elsewhere. Don't worry about your PR, it should propogate shortly. I wish Google updated more often, they are just getting choked, I guess.

Let's see what happens after the 16th then. I can't see much benefit in renewing these old domains though when buying new would be cheaper. There are so many posts here saying "all you have to do is have a link from DP", or get one from a decent site with decent PR and you'll be indexed withn 48 hours. As I've said I have a few good incoming links and that is certainly not my expereince with this particular site.

So either the fact it's had a generated site on it is a disadvantage, or people are saying "indexed" when they mean spidered or it's simply not that easy for all sites or . . . there are so many conclusions that could be drawn.

Strangely enough my awstats is now saying that there was one page listed in Google in June but Google says otherwise!

The next bunch of domains come up for renewal on Sunday. I think I'll be much fussier with which ones of these I renew. Aged domains of a couple of years don't seem to have any big advantages. Mind you a sample of one is hardly very scientific! :)

Hey, I have used sitemaps for a long while, made a huge internal linking, but I still have sites which are 2 months old that are still not indexed.
I beleive that is entirely related to the importance of that page, specially if it was relevant and has been linked from other sites.

Getting deep links will also accelerate the rate by which your site is indexed
