I'm not the first person and I believe won't be the last who can't help but to wonder: Is the Big G getting worse? Have their focus been diverted from the online market to other places? Are they still going to be the ruler of the cyber world few years down the road?

Their algorithm's going wacko, their customer service is getting worse, they've slayed and banned many innocent souls, taking away their means to survive. The system just isn't fair anymore. They killed the spammers yes, but together with a few good law-abiding citizens.

So who do you think will be the next ruler? Will Yahoo make a comeback, or will bing win this brutal showdown between the big boys?

I think Bing will take a chunk, but Google's in a prime position and will tidy up their act - do whatever it takes - to remain a top dog.

Google has been around long enough that it will remain on top. How many every day users of google actually care about google banning website owners? As long as google is around for people to use as a search engine, I believe it will remain on top

google puts too much effort into staying top, so i would say yes.

But either way, the internet is splitting into thousands of "top" sites, so they won't be top for much longer.

Google is always going to be at the top. They've become reputable for millions of people around the world, if not billions.

Bing will probably still be around, it's got M$ to back it. However there's no reason why Google would be kicked out of #1, it'll be around for a long time

    Sure Google's reign will end.

When we stop using computers and search engines (id estimate 10-15 years) google will dissapear and another company will step in.

You have to think of it this way . What does the average person do when they want to find something on the internet. They visit Google, doubt that will change.

Certainly, I feel that Google's time will be over shortly. However, I don't think they will be supplanted by Bing. And Yahoo is no longer a possibility now that they've abandoned their own search technology. This leaves me with the belief that some other company will soon appear on the horizon as a provider of much better search technology. Who this is, I don't know yet (but I know it's not Wolfram Alpha).

Google is not going anywhere, its a common household name now, people say "Google it" when they are telling someone to search for info.

I think Google will be number 1 for many years to come, they got their advertising just right to start off with - And other Search Engines are going to have to be something special if they're going to beat Google.

Myspace was appearing on the tv, radio, news, gossip magazines, and whatnot; it was a household name. Friendster had a spot in the top 10 most visited website. Who knew about Facebook just couple of years back? No one. I reckon it's more than possible that the same thing could happen to G.

I don't think any other website can replace Google as of now. Just to remind you that Google is not a single owner website or a group of individuals running it. Its a full blown company that has penetrated into almost every country that matters at the moment. China (next super power in the making) has no problems with yahoo, bing, myspace, twitter, facebook etc, why Google? Because it has something that no other site on the net has ;)

Google will last a longtime, but 5 years would be enough time for another search engine to appear
