Can a website with good content and a good number of link exchanges - out weight websites using the same keywords or is age a big factor in how Google ranks search results. I know I can do well at content and link exchanges - but age is not something I can do much about. Also how can you find out how old a website is?
If you get lots of content, good anchor text links, good on page SEO then IMO you will outrank older sites that don't have any of that. Of course, outranking older sites that DO have all of the above is another issue. It comes back to the all important yet frustratingly annoying factor of time. Not sure about checking the age of a site, they sometimes say in their footer 2000-2005 etc, the only other thing I can think is to whois the domain and see when it was registered
>> Also how can you find out how old a website is? As already mentioned, a whois search can help you with how old a *domain* is, if you want some more specifics on how old a *website* is, try www.archive.org
google and other search engines only try to rank high sites that would be the best for their searchers. for example if i typed in apple ipod I would like to see the best website with these products ofcourse, and not which site is older. Most of the time the site that has been around longer has more expirienced and is better so it ranks higher but i believe that if your site is better than another site it would rank higher even tho its younger. But make sure your site is a better site and more visitors would rather come to your site then thers from every matter
All things being equal the older site would rank better with Google. MSN likes fresher content. I don't know about Yahoo!
