How important is the age of the domain for the SEO and indexing of a website. What if I fresh buy an old domain which is not in G's index and develop it? Thanks
age of domain is def a factor, important i would say as well. older domains a lot of times have more weight then newer sites.
u will have to develop PR for it, gain trust n all. So an old domain will get preferred but its not such a big thing
I would wonder if all of these expired domains with PR4 or PR5 attached to them would maintain these rank levels with the next update? I guess they could IF the webmaster purchases links from sites with higher page rank.
I dont think there is a set date. but sites with links that are years old, sites with fresh new content being added for years, sites that have been free of blackhat techniques for years etc etc. have more weight then a 2 month old site.
age of the domain is an important factor for seo . but take care , G or the other search engines will not look your register date . they will care their index date
Be careful when you are buying an old domain with PR. it throws up red flags when you buy an old domain about cars and put content about medicine on it.
Older domains that are indexed certainly have value. It doesn't mean you will rank well, but it will be easier compared to a new domain. Expired domains that are re-registered are treated the same as a brand new domain - i.e. no benefit (any existing links will be counted if they remain, but site will still be subject to the sandbox). Buying a old domain that has no backlinks or no site will be treated as a new domain upon whois ownership changes. If you have owned a domain only (no site) prior to 2003, it will have benefit as long as there is no ownership change. (google grandfathered them to original owners).
I think if you change whois informations on old domain that google will not treate that domain as new domain.
Not only is age of domain a factor, but length of renewal. For example, if you register your domain for 10 years, that weighs more than a 1-year renewal. Their thinking is that a legit organization will register for all 10 years because they plan on being around, while a fly-by-night organization will only register for a year.
age plays a big role in my experience. When I get new clients that expect rankings on their new domain... i give them the truth... its going to take some time and money.
So what determines the age of a domain? Is it just the regitration or should there be a site up and running?
I believe that age plays a major role. Not necessarily age of registration, but age of actual content per the search engine cache dates.
Its a very old thread but still alive so time again link to my post Age of Site and its effect on Rankings
I never though domain age was too important, I just figured since overtime your site gains backlinks, the older your site is the more backlinks there will be, and becasue of that you will have better SEO.
