Age check

What should be a deciding factor for members to be a certain age.

My polling site has been growing, and with that growth I am getting members that are pretty young. I just had one join that I am guessing is about 12. I keep the site pretty clean, no swear words, porn, stuff like that, but there are some polls that discuss drugs, or more adult ideas.

Any suggestions on warnings or by permission or whatever. I have put a little thought into having an adult only section by request of some members, but not sure if I really want to deal with it.

You might want to do a search for COPPA and consider speaking with an attorney like Jeffery Cohen.

I'm adding age verification to my join form now. The form will not have minimum age requirements posted on it, but it will give them the bad news if they are not old enough. I will put the age limit it the privacy notice. I figure no use to get parents permission either because I honestly don't want them if they are under 13.

    Well... make a tracking cookie...
If they are under 13 on first registration, they shouldn't be able to login or register again...
And, on your terms and conditions page, you should write that ppl under 13 are not allowed, and put a "I agree" button on your registration..

This should help you have no problems!
