Why is this happening? Is there a way to change it?

I thought that this happens only with Win 98 and 2000.

0 is right, I think it's motherboard related. If your mobo is really old it might not support automatic powering down regardless of the OS

i only saw this problem in the old computer but new computers automatically power off,
in old computer you manually need to power off your computer.
Nothing wrong with XP , this option is not supported by your PC.

The computer is Pentium 3. I got it from a friend. He had Win 98 SE and told me that he didn't have this "problem".
I upgraded to Win XP Pro and since then this is happening.Anyway,I will go at BIOS setup and look if I can find a solution there.
