after redirecting, how do i get rid of duplicate site

    so i (stupidly) had both a www and a non www version of my site. i have now 301 redirected, how do i now delete the duplicate version? do i need to?

    The search engines will slowly drop the "duplicate site" given that every time they hit it they get sent to the "good site". It also won't appear to be updated so will be stale compared to the fresh content on the good site.

    I had a client that we put redirects on this time last year and it took forever to drop them, but a quick check now shows that google (for example) has dropped the old site in favour of the new.

    The old site still carries PR4 and hundreds of backlinks ;)

    weird. it all worked for a while but now when i go to the site via the www i get an internal error message and then cant get the site to load at all from any url. i redirected the www to the non www.
