Ultimately, you need to do what Google has been telling people to do for years...

Original content, unique text, regular updates, audience engagement and user friendly design.

Those are the key aspects of SEO. Don't believe the hype about tips and tricks to convince Google to love you. Google has always said that they want to offer searchers the best answer to their questions, are you targeting high traffic "questions" and is your content the best possible "answer" Google has to offer?

You can only help yourself to get out from there! Yes, to stay alive in internet world after Panda and Penguin, you have to develop something original, genuine. Work hard for that and don't go for automated back links any more.

Yeah but how do people find it to link to it and share it.. Need to advertise/spam/tell people somewhere.. With google it's a case of what came first, the chicken or the egg...

I think to properly answer this question we also need to look into the future and try to guess where Google is headed.

First of all we can see that back links are still a contributing factor to the relevancy of a website. BUT that factor is quickly changing, it is no longer JUST a back link but a relevant useful back link placed appropriately on a relevant website. The back link shouldn't be spammy in any way or on a spammy website with other spammers placing their links in their too.

Second we must come to terms that Google is starting to emphasize social factors!!! When the last Panda update came out right before Penguin came out there was a lot of complaints about the search term "Make money online", a blogger account(Blogger is owned by Google) was showing up in the first page results with ZERO content. If you haven't already created a blogger account for your search term or company then you are behind the trend. Other social sites that are getting a lot of emphasis.....Google+(its getting forced down everyones throats), Facebook, twitter, PINTEREST is a new one that I have actually seen someone do a case study on this and he ranked in a MONTH just by putting a few pictures up.

Thirdly is the Onsite SEO, Google is making it clear that they want FRESH and RELEVANT content on your website. So try and update your website every month(at least) it seems that Google is updating Penguin every month!!! So you should be updating every month too.

Until Google is no longer a key player in the search industry then we are stuck with their rules.

    Best of Luck :)
