    Always has been about content and always will be - the only thing that surprises me is how many still try the black hat crap that gets websites banned - If you have a gamblers mentality then keep on trying to game the search engines, you'll end up just like crap shooters and card counters that think they are going to beat the "house" ... Here's the latest on the subject straight from Google's head of search, Amit Singhal at the SXSW conference in Austin, "Want to rank on Google. Have good content says Singhal “you don’t need to worry about anything else.” That prompted Guy to ask if SEO is bull. Amit said no, “That would be like saying marketing is bull.” He added that SEO can help enhance good content."

    There is no one perfect answer to this question.

    Use a variety of anchor text. Do your best to have Google know what is natural and what is not.

    Google’s Penguin update did change things.

    Randomness is the key to success when it comes to staying ahead of Google. You need the following:

    1. URL Links
    2. Social Bookmarks
    3. WIKI's
    4. Blog Comments

    5. Do-Follow Links
    6. No-Follow Links
    7. Articles
    8. Facebook, Twitter Posts / Likes etc.
    9. Avoid Spammy links


    This will give you a good start. The biggest thing is to not stick to one method. Use a variety.

    The panda update was basically google getting rid of crappy links - so to not fall foul of panda only get good links so PR 1 and above (no pr0)


    Also i agree with @dcristo and @juanzo and many other -

    Now you know what triggers panda - what are you going to do about it? maybe focus on good quality content? many only get good pr links?
