Hi I have a dating site which what highly ranked 11 at one stage for the search term online dating. Then dropped to 25 and was steady for some time around this in Google.com. (Google.co.uk was v high) I changed the server from a windows box to a Linux and we have disappeared from Google.com. Does any body know what I need to do to get it back. (we listed first page also on msn and now we are back on page 4-5) Does anybody know what I can do to solve this problem. Thanks in advance for any help.
odd. Moving from Win to Lin shouldn't affect your rankings in anyway. I see the site is still PR6, so obviously G thinks the pages are the same ones. I can't really think of anything that might help. When did you move servers ? Is it possible that the drop you're seeing is due to the last G update rather than the move ?
do u think it possible it is still being viewed as a duplicate site this just reminds me that I know of a few sites that may still be sitting on another server and I wonder whether this has affected their ranking with Google interesting
Jlawrence It's been about 3/4 weeks now since the move. I was just guessing that it might be the move. I thought that the change in IP may affect. Last G update could be the site seems to move 10 some time 20 places to and throw but never totally cant be found. Peter sellers We still have a copy of the old site but it has been renamed. Thanks for the help
if you renamed the site and it is online it could be seen as duplicated content not sure have sent off an email to ask for the previous sites to be completely removed from the server, just in case you never know it may be like the blue bird of happiness
Did the physical location of your server change? Google does geotargeting and can return results based on the physical location of the server. I would assume a dating service would be a target.
in my case I moved the sites from a friend's server with company A to my own server with the same company A this has got me thinking a rare commodity considering the climate
Same location Server A and B. The old files have been renamed and moved to different location on server.
Ok, I think the clue here is in your use of renamed. What exactly has been renamed ? Moving a php site from Windows to Linux doesn't require any renaming of files. Assuming you're using the same domain name, then there cannot be any duplicate content. But I'm interested in what exactly you have renamed ?
Apologies I should be more clear, I have moved the domain name xdate.com which was pointing at a windows box and have now change the domain name server to a linux box. The dating app which was running on the windows box for xdate.com has been renamed (i should delete it) The new site is on the linux box Again sorry for any confusion.
let me explain a scenario I had when I moved from a friend's server with the same company to a server with I owned with the company [ev1], I had changed the dns to point to my servers. recently when the company who I had bought the domain name from somehow didn't get the email to me about the domain expiring [was able to renew] however, the site went blank when it came live it was of an old copy of the site which was on my friends server. he hadn't deleted that site. I contacted the server company got them to point to my servers ... now reading this, I am truly wondering whether this in actual fact has dented the websites I originally had on my friend's server .. the sites which were on this server seemed to have dropped 1 page rank for no apparent reason and I am beginning to wonder if there is a relation brother sister or dog
Is your IP changed? Check that ur having a duplicate site or not, check ur backlinks, check ur no. of indexed pages is their any change from previous.
