Sounds like things are starting to change since he wasn't tried and instead was released. 5 years ago it would have probably been automatic execution.

The leading regime that is responsibel for the laws that made this penalty happen is democratically choosed by the people. The people agree.

At this time he's on an UN compound for protection. The parliament tries to hinder him from leaving the country. Germany and Italy have offered him Asylum.

Just now I learned that he's on the way to Italy in an Army aircraft and perhaps has landed already.
May God bless him. But what happens to estimated 2000 other Afgan Christians in that country. I read this afternoon an interview with one of the people there. They are very afraid and of course hiding since they became Christians. They said it was better before the Taliban regime.

Guess this country needs more pressure too. Lower than animals ever can be, thanks to the taliban and their version of the quran.

Why would anyone embrace democracy at the insistence of the USA? Our's is one of the most corrupt and one sided, rich people, goverments in the world!

Until the lower and middle class wake up and vote, that will be the case. I hope they do before it's too late!

    Not really.

He wasnt tried on the grounds that he is "mentally unfit" . This is just an excuse..the Afghan govt. does not have the courage to go against the Islamic "scholars" .

Next time such a case comes in Afghanistan , execution is guaranteed - insanity cannot be used as an excuse everytime.

    I disagree.
Firstly, curruption is part of human nature and so will exist in every form of Government or state. Secondly, the US doesn't have much of a rich/poor divide which many other countries suffer from, which means that the average wealth and living of the average US citizen is higher than probably 90% of the world. Therefore, it's a good example of how a democracy can work.

Feel free to suggest something better.
USSR claimed they had better, Castro does, Mullahs in Tehran do, Ghazafi in Libya does.

American system is the best example that the human race has managed to come up. If anyone claims it is perfect perhaps they don't know math, there is no perfect in the world, there is worse, bad, normal, good, better and no place for best and worst.

To be honest, I am really disappointed with the ...ty of Afghans, I knew they were a bit ... but I didn't know this much. From one side they are enjoying a level of democracy that they wouldn't dream of and from the other side they repeat what Taliban did.

Perhaps one day computers take over and solve the problem.

Actually they can if you stick the the basic foundation of what a Democracy is. It is not a concrete term, rather it's abstract in nature.

Let's see if they pass the test of a "democracy".

    1. Government elected by the people?
    2. Elections are somewhat legitimate?

    That's it.

As to what kind of democracy they are, that's another debate. BTW, if the majority of citizens believe that capital punishment for Christian converts is acceptable and the politicians enact that belief, that's a representative democracy in action.

What happens when millions of uneducated idiots vote.
    Guess what? - A Monster
Democracy is aimed to seek the utmost best results on a reasonable educated base.

Aren't Iraq, Afganistan, Iran not enough?

When the scripture says in Salomon:

"Best results are reached by consulting many" - which is the hint to democracy but not an ultimate democracy.
Who would ask idiots? Would some of you seek guidance and advice from uneducated people, truly not, - You and I know its a numbers game and not a democracy.
As long the quran stays in the center of governing a country then ther will be no such a thing as progress, democracy, peace, love etc..

    Humm....

Sorry, I don't get it. Iraq and Afghanistan have been librated and life is far more enjoyable there for the educated people you support, alas for stupid people as well, but hell of the IR of Iran not only hasn't been librated but is going to gurantee it's existance by developing atomic bomb. - please don't say they are seeking atomic technology not bomb, I am not one of those stupid you dislike.-

    Isn't north corea enough?

Yeah, I was wrong the use the word democracy as I guess you're right.

It's just angers me how muslims can come to Western countries and feel offended by a hell of a lot of things (women, comedy, lifestyles, sexuality, cartoons ect) yet Christians in their country get executed. But they live under the islamic rules which is a religion promoting 'peace'? Yeah right.

    Who told you that?

To clear it up. A pure democracy defined as the true democracy from Democrates time in Greece is: A group of people that makes common decisions based on the will of the majority.

Therefore, your comment does not have any grounds, since the Democracy rulership that have been choosed by the majority accept the death penalty where it's accepted and don't accept it where it's not accepted.

Sorry, but I have to disagree here. A democracy should not be aimed. If it's aimed, then it's not a real democracy, but a hypocritical one.

So you are saying this is normal:
"they have a death penalty for those who don't accept islam as their religion"

And it is a democracy since is based on the majority.

The liberation as you call it was well intented but didn't work out (we all have to admit) and likely will not work out for another 3 - 5 decades, - simply due to a lack of education.
Democracy doesn't work well in an uneducated population. The islamist know that too and will do anything to hinder that progress because its a threat to their base. Islam is a system that works with poverty as its controling tool since hundred of years, how can that change within a couple of months or years?

Recently we have seen a shift of people being able of living a reasonalbe-comfortable life now, but thats nothing new either, just a shift waiting for the next to happen.

We all(including myself) believed in liberation, but in fact as of the moment it was just waking up wild dogs.
The problem lies with the islamic system only and alone, as long as they don't adjust or change as long their will be no progress for the whole entire region and its population and that is what the leading feudalistic society of islam are not seeking either.

Yes mahmood, good idea to ad on north corea too.

I respect your opinion, but democracy is also bound by rules, political and social environment that needs to be considered. One of it is a minimum of educational level in order to be functional and must be aimed at progress and stability.

Seeking the ultimate weapon is not the way to start with (iran, north corea for example) and that has to be corrected with whatever it takes.
