Affiliate Store Script - How long to customize?

I know it depends on a lot of factors, but for those that have a Amazon store script, how long did it take you to customize it? I've installed mrrat's script but I'm starting to wonder if I should just post in the services forum and see if I can hire someone to do it.

 

Best option IMO, if you lack time or expertise and ofcourse when you can afford to buy.

 

Been using another script for over a year now - haven't stop customizing or building new niche product stores with it yet..

Started with just a plain vanilla installation, got the itch to modify the html layout slightly here and there, adsense?, niche products and the list of things to do goes on and on.

You'll probably lose all the fun by hiring someone to do it for you!

Hi

A simple way to customise the freekrai script is to use my plugin/mod (located at http://pilkster.com/amazon-product-feed-plugin-for-wordpress/) which allows you to use Wordpress themes (of which there are hundreds, if not thousands).

I will release it to the public if there is enough interest.

I recently set up a store with ASM2 by freekrai and customized the design a great deal. Took me a few hours but only because I kept editing the wrong file. If you know basic PHP and HTML then I recommend this script, its really not all that hard. I was using the associates-o-matic script and they encoded their script so you cant really customize it. (Not sure about paid, but I'm not taking the chance of paying and I can completely customize it.)

 

@pilky: will you release the plugin? it looks great!

Associates-O-Matic is encrypted code, even for the paid version.

How come your site loads so quick, my site with the freekrai script takes ages to load and constantly crashes?

You might try another host. One of my ASM2 stores developed a problem of slow loading a couple months ago. Don't know what the host had changed? However there seemed to be a problem connecting to Amazon. I moved the site to my VPS and haven't had any problem since.

Looks like a move to me as well soon. I am already on a VPS but things seem to take a turn for the worse since early this month. Accessibity to all my sites are almost non-existant, even Google Sitemaps reports a whole series of 'Network Unreachable's and my indexed pages seems to have disappeared from Google as well.

Same as what myhart commented above, the problems seems to be the connection to Amazon. Other pages which are not connected seems to work fine. My hosting people couldn't find anything wrong with their system either.

Any members have any ideas or a little bit more knowlegde about VPS hosting servers? Be glad to hear it from you here.

Thanks for the nice comments about the plugin. I didn't realise that this thread had grown so much until I got a comment on my blog from someone here at DP. I'm gonna give some serious thought to releasing the plugin, I might have to ask for a link from any site using the plugin back to pilkster.com or something though.
