Affiliate programs with no banners or html

Having had zero success with CJ, I got maybe one click per month, I decided to replace it with some specific products that can be targetted to a web site rather than going through collections of disparate products. Now some of these products provide a variety of banners, and HTML code and Java scripts that can be used ready to go, but many seem to only provide URLs with an affiliate id.

I'm wondering how people integrate these into their sites. Do you just make up some descriptive text and use that to link, or do you make up you own banners?

You can do either, but text links convert better than banners.

One think that bothers me is that I think I saw somewhere that it's not good to have actaul text ads on the same page as Adsense - it's against TOS. That's why I was thinking of banners.

macdesign, it's OK to have text ads on the same page as Adsense as long as:

    1. They don't attempt to pass themselves off as Adsense ads (or look deceptively similar) and

    2. They are not contextual.
