Is it common to sign up for affiliate programs directly with individual companies, such as sharebuilder.com? I have noticed many companies that have individual affiliate programs. Anywhere I can go to find out more information about individual programs? Thanks.
I have most of my success with these types of affiliate programs (independent). I find you can get more support and work better deals with them if you are selling a lot. I have yet to be "beat" by one of these private affiliate programs. If you want to find companies that have their own affiliate program (don't use an affiliate network to manage it), you can do a Google search for the type of company, product or service you are looking for and the word "affiliate". Then you will have to see if they are independent or use an affiliate network As far as a "source" to get these programs, there are some, but the sources only have small listings for the most part. I would take a minute and check out my programs below. Both independent and you can make some good money with them too.
Yep, there are many good individual programs! Better support, more resources, guides, etc. And usually also the % is bigger, no need to pay 10-30% for merchant networks! Good place to start with is MoreNiche (see my sig)
While looking for independant compagnies, be sure to search on forums, and contact these people before actually working with them. See if they reply quickly to your concern. There are bad guys everywhere. While I still continue to promote individual affiliate programs, I am very careful since I've been ripped off. Almost every affiliate has been ripped off one time or two. It's the job! Do not let this scare you.
