Basically, the Affiliate Nexus legislature has already passed in New York, and many companies closed their affiliate programs to new yorkers. Including overstock.com and other big affiliate programs. Now, the same legislature could pass in California, Hawaii, Minnesota, and many more states. What could this mean? I will give you an example that I just ran into. Today Amazon called me stating that there would be a hearing to pass the Affiliate Nexus legislature in MN. They said if it passed, they would have no choice but to CLOSE the Amazon Affiliate program to all Minnesota affiliates. This would KILL me. I have at least 4 very big sites that are DEPENDENT on Amazon for revenue. If I was "removed" from their affiliate program, essentially all of those sites would have no source of income. Even if you are not an Amazon affiliate, many other big names may close their doors too. If you are a resident of a state where this legislature may pass, I would be VERY worried and may effect you directly. If you know of a hearing, go to it. You could make a difference in whether it would pass or not. If you know nothing of the Affiliate Nexus, and want more info, here are a couple of links... http://blog.netchoice.org/2009/04/t...kill-online-advertising-in-one-easy-step.html http://nyaffiliatevoice.com/2009/03/many-states-adding-internet-tax/ http://news.cnet.com/8301-13578_3-10220649-38.html Minnesota's hearing is this Monday, April 20th. If you are a Minnesota Affiliate, go to the hearing, and be heard. You could make a difference.
Yea this bill is crazy. They are trying to pass it here in Connecticut too and even though it hasn't passed some programs have dropped affiliates due to the anticipation that it will pass due to a prior vote of 53 to 0 in favor of passing it.
