Can someone give me a quick run down of what affiliate marketing is? how it works? how do you set it up? whats the best affiliates to join up with, and how much can you make? I've looked on here but couldn't find straightforward answers.
you promote products for someone else, and in return get a cut of the sales. online, it works by you linking to the merchant, and a user clicking through and buying something. there are countless affiliate programs, try signing up with commission junction or clickbank. the amount you can make varies greatly, and depends on many factors.
but would you setup a website soley for that purpose? or is it more something you add on to a current site?
You can do either. If you already have a site up that is getting traffic just look for products in that niche or products you think your users are going to buy.

flashculture, check out the link in my sig. They're one of the best affiliate networks that I have found to date! They have tons of offers and the approval process is super fast. You can market anything from dating sites to credit cards even a nu wave oven if you would like. I would aslo recommend signing up with CJ, they have by far the most offers in the net but you might not get approved to market the ones you want.

I really like clickbank although I've had great success with amazon too. The advantage with amazon is that the customer will more times than not buy more than one product
Hope you don't mind me asking, have you got any rough figures on how much say using amazing makes in a month? roughly what numbers of traffic do you need to acheive that? and if there any paticular type of site that works better with it? (say a blog)
Affiliate marketing is representing a company or product on your blog or website by putting and ad, link, or button up to gain referrals to that particular company. Many, many internet companies have affiliate programs that are free to join, and it's as simple as copying and pasting your affiliate code into your site and then driving traffic. It's hard to get out of people what kind of affiliate programs are the best because it's so easy for a market to be saturated and the more people who know about a certain program, the less money there is to be made.
