Affiliate marketing can be a very good source of income. You are basically promoting somebody's product. You are asking, "What are the activities?", I assume you are asking what is involved, the steps. If I am correct, here are the basics. 1. Find a product to promote as an affiliate. There are way too many sources to list here, but Click Bank is probably one of the most popular. 2. Determine how you are going to get people to see the offer. This in itself is a process of steps that include but certainly not limited to any of these; - Set up a website as a review page, using keyword research SEO (content, meta, and domain name), Do all of the standard stuff, (backlinks, web 2.0, etc) to rank. - Set up a website that serves as an opt in page for a free product in the niche. Then use email marketing to promote affiliate offers to your list. Use low cost PPC to promote your Free product or use Social Media sites like Facebook and You Tube.to drive traffic to your opt in page. - Use media buys by placing banner ads on websites related to the niche. Link the ad either to any of the above or straight to the affiliates landing page. I prefer to drive traffic to my opt in pages and then use email marketing. I also drive traffic straight to the Click Bank order form bypassing the affiliates sales page. My testing shows higher conversions with this method. 3. Test, Track, Adjust, and Repeat. 4. Stay in one market/niche, do not give up, and work hard. Most importantly Start Taking Action Today.

Out of all of shend923's steps I probably agree with this one the most. You have to maintain a consistent work flow with one product and do everything you can to try and make it succeed before you go on to the next. When I experimented with affiliate marketing I failed because I kept moving from product to product thinking that the next one would work when it never did.
That ^^ and even more critical is this point. If you don't track EVERTHING and I mean everything down to the single keyword and url then you might as well not do any media buying or advertising. Seriously, the only way to be REALLY successful is by tracking EVERYTHING. It's boring and tedious but this is what makes the difference between someone making $200/day and someone making $5,000/day. And you'd actually be very lucky if you were making $200/day not tracking your stuff.
affiliate marketing is very profitable and a ton of people do it everyday for their main income. i know i do at least
You essentially sign up to a merchants affiliate program and work with them to promote their products via your own mediums (web site, marketing emails, PPC campaigns) and earn a percentage commission of the sale. Simples
