Affiliate Banners or Banners by Advertisers?

I just created a forum that I am going to heavily promote and advertise, and I was wondering:

Should I put up my own affiliate banners on the sidebar or advertise them for sale and actually have people pay for that space monthly?

What do you think? The forum will have at least 500+ Pageviews per day when I start my marketing campaign.

How much should I charge for a 160x600 Banner?

My forum is Domain Name Exchange

You could have affiliate banners as well as a text link with something like "Advertise your site here" which links to your pricing schedule.

I'd suggest testing both strategies and then determining which is more lucrative. It's hard to predict how the monetization of a given website will play out. As far as what you should charge, I'd suggest taking a look at what your competition is charging, and then set your pricing accordingly.
