    Hi!
I am new to the Google Adwords. I have been practising the natural and organic methods of optimizing websites but in my new project, I have to utilize Google Adwords. I'd like to know a few things if any of you guys can be of any help.
1.I have set up and gathered my adwords ready to start my campaign, since its a new website, how does one guage the conversion rate of certain keywwords? or is it after the campaign has started that I can determine the conversion rates and acquistion costs?

    I appreciate your inputs.. thanks

Once you start your campaign, you will get all information regarding clicks, costs, conversions etc.. from with in your account. You can also generate specific reports. So go ahead and start your campaign :)

After you start your campaign you should wait one business day for google to approve you!

I never waited one business day.

I learned something that I tested, and it worked good for me: If you need a lot of traffic instantly, write your ad friday night.

    Thanks for the replies..
So I am assuming that once I start, I set an "assumed" conversion rate which can be as low as 3. with time, it gradually increases depending on the performance of my ads..

    Am i right?

yes, After one day, you will be able to see what is your coversion rate, and then, you will do split testing to see which ad is better.

tip: Do one thing at a time
==> cange the headline first, then see which ad is converting best.
    ==> Wait for 200 - 300 clicks nd chose a winner...

It can decrease... or increase as well. It depend on how your ad is performing.

You will have to split test.

YMMV, but I've been doing this a while...
    Conversion rates:

    Ecommerce
Product specific link that drops on the product page: 3%
Product specific link that drops on the homepage: 1%
Generic term to home page: .5%
Category terms to cat page: 1%
    Cat terms to homepage: .5%

The lesson from this is that people are lazy. If they are searching for 'blue widget size 10' drop them on the Blue Widget Size 10 page! Don't make them have to look once they get to your site!

Lead gen, no create card required: 6% (win a free Widget! Enter your name and email!)

Lead gen, credit card required: .5% (get first 30 days free, enter your name and CC stuff here!)
