Im new to AdWords and Im tryin to figure out what to do. Ive read many articles and help-files on Google but Im hearing about AdGroups. And people are talking about maximum number of phrases for each AdGroup.

Can someone please indulge me on the matter so I can do the best thing for my ads.

You have different levels, it goes:

Adwords Account - > Campaign -> Ad group

So the keywords are placed inside the ad groups.

Say you had an online store that sold mobile phones, you may have a campaign named mobile phones and then an ad group for every mobile phone brand underneath it with related keywords and ad text. :)

Ok. That was what I thought. One thing that our company does is selling books.
Right now I have a campaign for each buisness unit, for example Legal. Under Legal I have several different types of books, and under each book I have the keywords. But Ive heard about using "only" 3-5 phrases under each adgroup. I dont have any phrases, only keywords, maybe 30-50 under one book. And I heard that its possible to use different ads with different adtexts for the same adgroup.

I also saw that this should be in PPC-forum under AdWords. Can any OP move this thread?

Ad groups are for grouping your keywords in the campaign as tight as possible. If your keywords are grouped properly, then it will be much easier to write a killer ad for a group.

in a perfect world you would have ONE ad text and ONE keyword in one agroup.

say you're promiting "acne cure" you would make a text-ad with "Acne Cure" in the headline and in this adgroup use

    acne cure
    "acne cure"
    [acne cure]
    -free

    as keywords.

    Acne Cure
    On Sale Only $900

    www.acnefree24.com

Dont make the mistake to shove many, many keywords in one adgroup. You can, but it will hurt you in the long run. Even for slight variations like then
    "cure for acne"

you would best make a NEW adgroup "cure for acne" and then

    cure for acne
    "cure for acne"
    [cure for acne]
    -free

in this adgroup, and text ad something like

    Cure For Acne
    We have the answer
blahblah <----- always make sure to use exact KW in the headline
    www.acnefree24.com

So...as a rule....put every ad and keyword in one adgroup and avoid stuffing many keywords (even slight variatons) for one ad into ONE adgroup. The reason is that bad performing keywords influence the cost/performance of the WHOLE adgroup and that the keywords should 100% match what the ad text says. You cannot do this if you have 100 "acne"-related keywords in your adgroup but only one text-ad with one fixed headline. so 99 of the keywords by default would not really match the text-ad, therefore its already a given that their qualty score might be lower.

adgroup is a list of thematically arranged keywords....make sure when you create an adgroup just group the keywords which are similar and if possible has common words..

so your 1 ad = 1 keyword means that I should create one ad and the place one keyword in that ad group.

Lets say I want to advertise this:

    www.*****.com
    Buy ***** here
    Blah Blah Blah

And I've lets say 20 keywords for this ad. Should I just put all those 20 keywords in one ad group or should I create 20 different ads with 20 different ad groups, considering that ad text would be same.

You create 1 adgroup and put one keyword there. Then your create phrase and exact match for that keyword in the same adgroup. After you write an ad for that keyword.

    That means 1 keyword=1 adgroup
