Adwords shows a conversion, yet no sale in CB? wtf?

I find that this happens a bit too often for me, I'll have a conversion show up in my adwords account, only to have NO sale show up in CB...

I feel like they're stealing my commissions.. does this happen to anyone else?

When someone clicks through from GAW they get cookied by G (which facilitates the G conversion stats).

If they click through your LP to vendor (or you are direct linking) they will then get CB cookied.

Now if they purchase later through another aff's link, or have your CB cookie removed for any reason, your G cookie will most likely still be on their machine - hence showing a conversion when in fact someone else got the sale.

Annoying - but that's part of the game.

Adwords shows a conversion? u mean clicks? adwords will jus show u a click made to ur landing page.. frm there on the buyer has to buy the damn thing fr a conversion to show up on cb.. and cb stealing commissions is unheard of..

No, I don't mean clicks. I'm talking about a CONVERSION.

I have conversion tracking setup, so everytime someone gets to the thankyou/download page it counts that as a conversion/sale

Stop before you jump to conclusions next time, I think I'd be able to tell the difference between a click and a conversion dude. - that's redonkulous.

rikat: This is my own product, and I'm sending the traffic to the actual domain (not through an affiliate link), so that doesn't really apply to me in this case. So even if another affiliate managed to somehow get the commission, the sale should still show up in my CB account.

I'm wondering how this happened though, strange.

Ahhh, I understand ... Yeah, that is strange then.

Are you hard-placing the conversion code on your ty page, or using CB's "integrated sales reporting" interface?

I have had trouble with the CB placement before (giving me false positives) but honestly I don't even use G conversion tracking anymore - for reasons too numerous to mention ;)

Wait! You said you set your Thankyou/download page up in Adwords, so now when someone search a keyword and you link pops up then they can download your product for free!!!

    Because you did say:

Sorry, but nah this just isn't the case. The reason for this is my thankyou page is configured to not show up in any search engine query.. so I'm covered there.

I think it was another cause, thanks for the thought though.

    Cheers

    ^ That's actually correct...

Sometimes your customer clicks on 4-5 ppc ads/landers before they buy, if all 4-5 aff's have tracking codes setup, all 4-5 aff's will show a conversion in G.

As a vendor - someone got access to your thank you page, somehow - truth be told it's not that hard for the experienced...

Get yourself another counter don't rely on just G. statcounter.com has a great free service, and it goes much more in depth than G.

You guys aren't understanding the OP. What he's saying is that he has it setup so that adwords shows a conversion if somebody goes to his download page. And theoretically, the only way to access that download page is if either a) you knew the url of the d/l page - which he says he has hidden, or b) you purchased the product. Adwords is saying that his download page was accessed. Clickbank is saying that it wasn't. But it clearly was, since Adwords recorded the conversion, because somebody accessed the download page.

    Jeff,

I have several clickbank sites as well, and this happens to me, and is highly annoying. None of my download pages are in the search engines.

Finally someone who understands the point I was trying to convey! Thanks for clearing that up bro.

Yeah, it's pretty annoying.. that and having a crapload of order form submits with no sales; it's a real tease!

At least I'm not alone though, nevertheless CB definitely needs to fix their system.

Just thinking out loud, but maybe it was a robot i.e Googlebot etc...

Clickbank claim to not track search engine bots or record them, so might explain it?

Not sure about Google, if they track them though?
