    I suppose you could argue that Adwords is an art, not a science, in which case we're all artists?

    Your best bet is the learn how to do your campaigns yourself. You might hire someone to do the legwork, but the thought has to come from you. If you hire someone with brains, you are going to pay through the nose. Think about. Why would someone who is really good in adwords and makes a lot of money with adwords drop what they are doing to run your campaign. You got it. The price has to be right.
