Adwords Hitlist Traffic - CTR Wild Ride

Okay, this is only a speculation and that's why I'd like to have other, more experienced adwords ppl chime in:

Every time I put up a new ad for a NEW site, I almost always, right out of the gate get INSTANT clicks. I'm talking about the first day etc.... then it tempers off... and then dies. I could launch at 12am...

I've noticed this a few times and I have a theory:

The INSTANT clicks are the result of all the monitoring software and services that keep track on new ads for statistical purposes etc... Or competition checking me out... But I think it's the former, some sort of automates stuff because even if I launch after 9pm etc... I'll still get these INSTANT clicks.

Mostly happens if the site listed is new. Any thoughts on this? Thanks

    What about your impressions? CTR?

I believe that new ads get more IMPRESSIONS at first so that the system can quickly get the data it needs to calculate your true QS. Once it has enough information, your ads are served according to your QS and bids. In other words, your initial QS was set artificially high to get more impressions. Now with your true QS, impressions naturally fall off. On the content network, this can happen within a day, sometimes hours. I haven't really noticed this effect on search campaigns.

I don't think it's giving you more clicks, as they can't force anyone to click your ads. It's giving you more impressions which results in a higher number of clicks at first.

Well, that's the thing... the impressions are the same. So why would it matter what their QS is? Both impressions and position stay pretty much the same, but upon launch there's a sudden burst in CTR.

I never said AW force people to click, but my theory was about services (not affiliated with AW) that keep track of ads for a certain keyword. I used to subscribe to such services and they'd give all the nooks and crannies of where a new ad came from, what link it was going to, how many day it posted, times etc...

Could be something else though... I thought maybe other people experienced this too... :)
