Has anybody got any experience of running an adwords campaign for an ebay store. My client is in the process of buidling an ecommerce site but has asked me to drive traffic to his ebay store for the next couple of months. And the customers always right. But can it be done. Are there any issues I ahven't thought about?

join the commission Junction ebay affiliate program also:

    www.cj.com

you earn additional % for the traffic you drive for ebay.

But you need to take very care with ebay TOS or you get kicked.

look for the Commission Juncion forum here, there is a lot of people that drive AdWords traffic to ebay there

Cheers Micromag - I'll take a look at the eBay TOS and the forum you mentioned. Were there any issues you were particularly thinking of?

The main point regarding AdWords is that you can not use the ebay name in AdWords Display Url Domain. for example:

    you can not use:

    www.ebay.com
    www.my-ebay.com
    ebay.shop.com

    but you can use:

    www.myshop.com/ebay
    www.mydomain.com/shop/ebay

    in AdWords ads Display url

is a nice program, if the guy is new to ebay and signup there ebay pays you $12,00

There are other programs in CJ that you can just click, signup and begin like DISH TVs that pay $110,00 per subscribers and webhosting $100,00 per user that you send there.

if you are planning to drive traffic to your ebay store, there will be no problem in putting ebay.shop.com as your display url. but the problem mayb like i had put in my previous posts, ebay would have bidded on that keyword thereby stopping you from using the domain name. (google adwords will allow only one ad per domain name, and if the advertiser is ebay, i dont think u will b having any chance that your ad will be displayed instead of ebay's )

once i had listed my ebay listing in ebay and put the display url as ebay.com (fortunately ebay had not bidded on that paritcular keyword for 2 days, 3rd day ebay started listing and my ad was gone). i had no problems with that...

Ebay specifically tells in their affiliate TOS that an affiliate cannot direct traffic to his or others ebay stores. this is a new one and it applies to all ebay sites (all countries). so i would suggest you check out fully with ToS...

Why spend money promoting eBay? It'd be a good move spending the money you would have on PPC, in getting up an ecommerce store asap.

You can still go the PPC route, but why spend money promoting someone else's brand?

Fair point dcristo but we want to generate more business while we develop our own ecommerce site.

Out if interest I submitted my original question to ebay stores support and got a whole load of useless replies. Do they use some form of automation to answer support questions. They just didn't make any sense at all.

    Deepak,

Thanks for sending all this information - much appreciated.

One further question - these TOS's apply to affilates what I am being asked to do is use adwords to drive traffic to a clients eBay store. Do the same conditions apply.

As you point out in your December thread 99.9% of products seem to be already advertised on Adwords by eBay and therefore one has to question to sense in bidding on these terms.

The client has a domain which redirects to their ebay store we could use this as the display URL but direct traffic to pages with-in thier eBay store.

If you are planning to drive traffic to your ebay stores using GAW then the above TOS do not apply coz, like you said it is only for ebay affiliates.

I was thinking about this today and an idea hit me. I welcome all experts in adwords to give their comments on this. We all know there is this concept of split testing inside adgroups, .i.e. we create two or three ads and see which ad performs better. Once one ad starts getting better clicks GAW starts to show that ad often.

maybe GAW is following the same principle for ads with same domain name. For ex. ebay advertise with their standard ad text which comes like this:

    Keyword
    Looking for Keyword?
Find exactly what you want today.
    www.eBay.com

now what will happen if you write a far more better ad with more targetting than what ebay ad has. so your ad becomes more relevant than what ebay has and your ad may get more clicks and thereby your ad may start showin up with the ebay.com domain name.

just my thoughts. i dont know how GAW shows up ads with same domain name. maybe worth a test. i will be running a test shortly on this. If anyone else has run a test, kindly do give an update...

AS far as GAW TOS i dont think this is possible. u cant use URl redirection in destination url. but i believe you can use a different display and destination url.
