Don't discount trying to get your site higher in natural rankings with SEO practices.

There are other search engines out there too. Google may get 70% of the market right now but why forget about the other 30%? Google's share could drop. Bing could do a huge advertising campaign next week to use their engine.

Depends on if your business targeting local traffic or global. Also depends on how many people search online for your product/service.

You can do some research by using Google Keyword Tool: https://adwords.google.ca/select/KeywordToolExternal
You can get the stats for how many people search for the keyword related to your business. You can also broken your searches down to specific regions, languages etc.

You can use this tool without having an adwords account. But if you do, you can see more information.

There are many sites where AdSense blocks are not
suitable due to usability reasons, but many of these sites
permit to place free ads and other marketing materials.

Thus it may be wise to find such sites and
use them for your marketing goals, in order
to improve the reach of your campaigns.

If you budget is big.. Maybe it is enough. But if your budget is small..of course not. Try to use other marketing methods like SEO, Article marketing, social media.

Adwords is one of the best ways to start online marketing.
    You quickly get real data:
-on where the search volume is as opposed to estimates.
    -what your converting keywords are
    -what your best pages are
    -what ad copies work
Armed with this information it is easier to get diversify into SEO and social media.
If adwords is profitable for you then great. If you want to scale and multiply your profits - you have to diversify your sources.

Have you tried social media marketing? adwords is just one way of online marketing but in this case you have to pay each of your traffic.

To do 'complete' online marketing, no.... Complete would suggest that you are covering all bases so doing just one form of online marketing could never be considered complete.

As mentioned before, Google has a large market share, but not 100%...Think about other networks and other ways people find sites.

Don't limit yourself by just using one method.

It's always good to diversify. In 2007 my entire business was based on income from adwords campaigns and i quickly learned how fickle that money can be at google's discretion. diversify your sources and your techniques and you'll be better off in the long run always.

For one of my businesses, yes, Google Adwords is pretty much miles ahead of other forms of PPC advertising. For other fields, I would still say it's pretty much Google Adwords. However, Facebook adverts seem to be getting a lot of good vibes at the moment and what with the Bing/Yahoo merger ... who knows. It really depends on what market you are entering into.

AdWords alone might be enough given the appropriate budget and only in the case you're targeting Google alone. There are, believe it or not, other search engines out there, driving significant traffic around

I think it just depends on your category. There are so many other ways to promote your products and services that I wouldn't just rely on google adwords.

There are many ways of online marketing other than Google Adwords which include Affiliate marketing, E-mail marketing, banner advertisement, Search Engine Optimization, Social Media Marketing etc.

Sure, if you want Google to rape you at some future point.

Diversify, as others have said. Bing is for some categories a much better converting advertising engine than Google and their costs are much lower. I generally hate Microsoft, but I can't argue with the facts. Don't forget SEO, a SINGLE number 1 listing can cause your business to skyrocket in a short time. And yes as others have said, go the guerilla route and do the social media thing. You're much better of mixing things up as long as you can keep up with them all.

I personally believe that when someone see's an AdWords ad next to a natural search ranking, that people think that business has more credibility. So I think an SEO objective and doing some link building, and social marketing is important along with AdWords marketing.

Are there any other options for the same effect as adwords? but not necessarily with google? For example does bing have a similar service?
